Twilight, Sunset, Dusk – the light and colours give you an opportunity for creating captivating photos. Discover ‘the mountain’ (Mt Wellington) and Hobart’s waterfront on this specially created photo tour of two iconic Tasmanian attractions

Hobart’s most distinctive feature is Mount Wellington and its cliffs of dolerite columns known as the ‘Organ Pipes’.  From the summit at 1,271m (4,169ft) above sea level there are spectacular views of Hobart and beyond to be experienced and a unique alpine landscape that will inspire your photography.

‘The mountain’ also features many endemic and native plants, flowers and birdlife and has been a popular place for locals and visitors alike since the early days of European settlement.

Sullivans Cove, the original landing site of the first settlers; Constitution Dock, the finish line of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race; and Salamanca, famous for its Saturday markets, all share a place along Hobart’s Waterfront which is lined with colonial sandstone buildings.

Imagine the photos you could take…

Highlights

  • Magnificent views across Hobart and the Derwent River from the summit of Mt Wellington - the clearer the day the further the views, including Bruny Island, South Arm, the Iron Pot Lighthouse and the Tasman Peninsula
  • A fantastic opportunity to capture amazing photos in the late afternoon light or the ambience of a weathered mountain top as determined by the conditions on the day
  • Informative commentary about the natural environment, history and other interesting information
  • Nature walk through sub-alpine woodland at ‘The Chalet’ - 1,000m (3,280ft) above sea level
  • A variety of landscape and nature photography opportunities including seasonal native wildflowers and birdlife. A misty day will present a certain eeriness of snow gums in the fog and great close-up subjects too
  • Picnic supper at ‘The Chalet’, after the walk
  • Visit to Hobart's historic waterfront for 'blue-hour' photography.  Considering conversations between you and your photographer guide, the location will be one that best suits your desired photograph(s)

‘Blue-hour’ is a time when the quality of light is a supreme time for photography - just after sunset and until darkness sets in.  You have the choice to be returned to your accommodation by us or continue at your own leisure with some night photography.
