A Nature Lover’s Paradise! Mountain, Forests, Wildlife – a uniquely Tasmanian Experience!
Mt. Field National Park is Tasmania’s oldest National Park incorporating mixed forests and lofty alpine heights. Once in the National Park (around 1.5 hours drive NW of Hobart) we walk the easy trail, through beautiful forest, to the 3-tiered famous Russell Falls. Our early start on the trail usually ensures the local Wallabies and Potoroos are still out and about and easily spotted!
We continue our walk to Horseshoe Falls and then we wander among the forest giants on the Tall Trees Track. Look skywards at the towering Swamp Gums – the world’s tallest hardwood trees and savor your time among this very special forest surrounds.
All of our walks are guided by one of our specially trained Tour Guides, passionate and knowledgeable about all that we visit.
After these fantastic walking tracks, and all the great photographs to go with them are complete, we re-join the bus and continue 16km uphill into the Alpine Region of Tasmania. We take you to the magnificent “Pandani Grove” also known as the Lake Dobson Alpine Circuit. Here the air is crisp, refreshing, the views are vast, and the plants are ancient, a truly amazing walk amongst Gondwanaland history.
Among this remote and quiet area of the National Park we stop for a relaxing lunch break before leaving the park and heading to our next destination – Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.
We join the expert guides at Bonorong for an up close and personal wildlife experience, see the Tasmanian Devils in all their snarling glory during a feeding session, meet the Koalas, pat a wombat and wander the grounds among the free hopping Wallaby’s and Kangaroos.
We return through Hobart and head to the summit of Mt. Wellington. Mt. Wellington forms a stunning backdrop for Hobart City. At 1271m the views from the top are amazing (although a little chilly – bring a jacket). The panorama takes in Hobart and Southern Tasmania, see the magnificent World Heritage Area stretched out before you. We return to drop you back to your accommodation in Hobart around 5.30pm.
